Advantages
- Reduced number of reinforcing steel bars (chuma).
- The quantity of foam work timber and supporting props is less compared to the solid slab.
- No need to plaster the underside of the waffles as they already have a smooth finish ready for painting.
- The quantity of concrete to be poured is also reduced due to the shape of the concrete waffles.
- The construction period is also reduced since the waffles are already precast.
- Less labour costs.
Disadvantages
- There is a risk of the waffles breaking during transportation. This can be solved by either casting on site or ensuring that the waffles are handled and transported with extra care.
- Prior training is required on waffles technology. To mitigate this, our professionals and Engineer will supervise the entire process for our clients and offer advice where it’s required.
